Spring into March with National Nutrition Month!
Spring is almost here…. and while the weather (hopefully) starts to warm up, let’s take this time to focus on your food because March is National Nutrition Month!
This tradition dates back to 1973, when the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics first started the celebration of National Nutrition Week with the theme “Invest in Yourself – Buy Nutrition.” The celebration gained momentum year after year, and in 1980 became what we know today as National Nutrition Month.
This month, the theme is “Go Further with Food”, so whether it’s choosing a healthy breakfast, or packing nutrient-dense snacks to fuel your body throughout the day, we’re encouraging you to make smarter choices in your meals. It’s important to remember that your food not only provides you nutrition, but can also impact your community if you buy from locally grown or sustainable food sources.
To celebrate, we will have weekly “challenges” in our blog that you can try to incorporate into your daily schedule. Don’t worry, they won’t be too crazy! Completely doable for a go-getter like yourself.
For the first challenge, try eating a different colored vegetable every day this week.
Maybe you can shake things up with some red bell peppers, orange sweet potatoes, or even dabble around with green zucchini or yellow squash! It’s completely up to you. We want you to have fun with your health! Who knows, you might discover your next favorite obsession. Vegetables have ALL sorts of different tastes even before they’re cooked a certain way.
Just remember to focus on the theme this month: Go further with your food. What does further mean for you?
