Del Valle ISD

TRACCS has partnered with Del Valle ISD (DVISD) as the off-campus training site for trainees. DVISD currently has 12,328 students enrolled across 14 schools, and employs eight school psychologists. Their mission is to create a bi-literate, culturally responsive enhanced academic foundation by providing a future-ready education with real-world opportunities.

DVISD is located southeast of Austin, Texas and serves a student population that is 44.3% emerging bilingual and 88.9% of students classified as economically disadvantaged.

We are fortunate to have fantastic supervisors who are a part of TRACCS!

Dr. Ivonne Estrella

Dr. Ivonne Estrella is currently a Bilingual School Psychologist at Del Valle ISD.  Dr. Estrella provides consultation, counseling, and assessment support across the district.  She obtained her M.Ed. and Ph.D. from Texas A&M College Station where she specialized in Bilingual/Multicultural Special Education.  She completed a pre-doctoral internship at the University of Texas at Austin’s Texas Child Study Center/Dell Children’s Medical Center.  Within this setting, she provided outpatient therapy, psychological services (e.g., ER assessments, inpatient rehab counseling, hypnosis to treat functional abdominal pain), and neuropsychological assessment.  Dr. Estrella’s training has also included providing School Psychology services abroad in Queretaro Mexico, conducting psychoeducational assessments in rural areas, and providing counseling services at low-income community clinics.  In her free time, Dr. Estrella enjoys spending time outdoors with her Siberian Husky, painting, gardening, and playing Tetris.

Dr. Deborah Giroux

Deborah earned a doctoral degree in School Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2008, with a dissertation on the therapeutic effects of a depression screening protocol for middle school girls. She holds undergraduate degrees in both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music from Southwestern University and worked as a paralegal for nine years before transitioning to psychology. Austin had no child/adolescent doctoral psychology internships in 2007, so after talking with psychologists at ASH, ACGC, Gardner Betts, and several surrounding school districts, Deborah persuaded staff at Del Valle ISD to create an internship.  DVISD was able to meet the surprisingly challenging internship requirements, namely, hiring 2 interns, providing compensation, and having 2 licensed psychologists to provide supervision.  After completing an internship at Del Valle ISD, Deborah continued her career there and now serves as Lead School Psychologist. Partnering with local universities to host school psychology practicum students and interns and guiding the team keep her on her toes. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and has a passion for native plants, gardening, and birding.
