Join the Lab

Prospective Graduate Students

We are recruiting graduate students (MS, PhD). Please contact Dr. Hussain directly if you are interested in pursuing graduate studies in the lab. In addition, students who wish work in the SMNP lab should apply to the Rehabilitation and Movement Science graduate program at UT Austin.

Prospective Postdoctoral Fellows and Visiting Researchers

The lab currently has an opening for a postdoctoral fellow to study closed-loop neuromodulation of brain networks underlying human memory and motor control. The successful candidate will combine transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), electroencephalography (EEG), and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to interrogate human brain networks and will work with both the SMNP lab and the FALCON lab (directed by Dr. Michael Freedberg). This position provides a unique opportunity to combine multiple neuroimaging techniques with cutting-edge closed-loop brain stimulation. Experience with real-time signal processing applications/brain-computer interfaces is highly desirable.

Qualifications include:

  • a PhD in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, physiology, psychology, or a related discipline
  • Experience with at least one of the following techniques: TMS, EEG/MEG, fMRI
  • 3-5 years of human subjects research experience
  • Programming experience (Matlab, Python, R, bash, cshell, etc.)

Prospective Undergraduate Fieldwork Students

We are always looking for motivated undergraduate students interested in obtaining course credit to work in the laboratory. If interested, please contact Dr. Hussain via email, including your name, major/department, academic year, and describe any previous research experience you may have had.
