Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) encompasses tools to assist individuals with limited or non-verbal communication. AAC can range from low-tech options like Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) to high-tech solutions such as smartpads for communication. These devices enhance communication by supplementing or replacing spoken language, enabling users to share their thoughts, needs, and feelings.

AAC promotes independence, social interaction, and participation in daily activities and plays a significant role in behavioral interventions.

There are many types of augmentative alternative communication on pads. Users can type their messages or choose from pre-set images. Some smart pads also support language switching to support multilingual communication.
This type of communication device allows users to customize images, record messages in their voice, and optionally connect an external switch for easier selection.
