High-achieving Black high school students&#8217; experiences with resources, racial climate, and resilience.<em>The Journal of Negro Education<\/em>, 478-494.<\/p>\n<p>The lower rates of college enrollment for Black students make it important to understand both how different high school environments af<span style=\"color: #000000\">fect college preparation\u00a0<\/span>and matriculation and how some students are able to succeed despite the environmental barriers faced in school. This multi-site case study explores the college preparatory processes of nine Black <strong>high achievers<\/strong> attending a well-resourced, suburban high school and eight academically successful Black students attending a low-resourced <strong>urban<\/strong> school. Findings indicate students at both schools encounter barriers (i.e., racial climate and a lack of resources) that inhibit their college preparation.
