<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Brewer<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1996<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Beamon<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2012<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Education abroad <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">offers <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">opportunity <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">take <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">advantage <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">holistic <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">collegiate <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">experience<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">which <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">impedes <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">detrimental effects <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">athletic <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">identity <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">foreclosure <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">process<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">International <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">educational <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">opportunities <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">can <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">positively <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">influence <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Black <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">male <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">student athletes <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">personal<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">academic<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">professional <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">development <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">they <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">come <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">see <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">world <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">beyond <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the gym <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">campus<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This article <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">examines <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">s<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ig<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">nificance <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">value <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">creating <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">education abroad <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">opportunities <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Black <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">male <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">student<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">athletes <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">means <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">providing meaningful educational <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">opportunities <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">realm <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">higher <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">education<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many Black male student&#8211;athletes suffer from identity foreclosure at rates higher than their white peers as they fail to develop salient aspects of their identity outside of the athlete role (Murphy, Petitpas, &amp;
