Self-Concept-of-Achievement Ability and Reading Proficiency of Black and White Males in an Adult Education Course.\u00a0<em>The Journal of Negro Education<\/em>,\u00a046(4), 456 &#8211; 461.<\/p>\n<p>Black &amp; white M adult education students (N = 188) aged 17 to 45 years were administered the Nelson-Denny Reading Test (Form B) &amp; the Michigan State Self-Concept of Academic Ability Scale. Results show that: (1) black or white Ss reading above grade level had a more favorable self-concept than black or white Ss reading below grade level, &amp; (2) black Ss reading above grade level had a higher self-concept than white Ss reading above grade level. 1 Table.
