In this paper, we argue that the dominant narrative situates Black collegiate athletes within a mind-body duality only valuing them for their athletic abilities and not their academic capabilities; however, historically this has not always been the case. Paul Robeson, William Henry Lewis and Duke Slater are exemplars of quintessential student athletes, but they are unknown. They are unknown because the master script silences them.
