Foster, H. L. (1995). Educators’ And Non-educators’ Perceptions Of Black Males: A Survey. Journal of African American Men,1(1), 37-70.

People’s stereotypical beliefs, feelings, expectations, and fantasies about black males were investigated. A sample of 3, 130 subjects included 1,627 educators and 1,503 noneducators. Subject data were collected related to sex, race, age group, and where adolescent years were spent. Subjects responded to an unobtrusive open-ended survey instrument that asked, “PLEASE LIST BELOW ALL THE STEREOTYPICAL BELIEFS, FEELINGS, EXPECTATIONS, AND FANTASIES THAT THE AVERAGE PERSON HAS ABOUT BLACK MEN.” The results established that there are stereotypical beliefs held about black males.
