A study examined African-American male honor students’ views of teaching as a career choice. Findings revealed that some qualified African-American male students are interested in teaching as a career and are available to be recruited into teacher education programs. However, obstacles to students pursuing that interest include lack of career awareness, lack of positive information regarding the profession, and lack of encouragement. Strategies for increasing male, African-American enrollment in preservice teacher education programs are outlined.
