The authors examined preferences among young black males and found that they were most likely to be most attracted to a female whose skin color was their own. These findings differed from previous studies which have found preference for light-skinned, medium-skin, or dark-skin, and may be a novel result, appearing to support the “similarity-attraction effect,” in which individuals tend to prefer those with characteristics similar to their own.
