Perhaps you\u2019ve seen typical or even crazy foods that have been stamped as a \u201csuperfood\u201d because of the <strong>vitamins and minerals<\/strong> and that you can benefit from for the rest of your life?<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_TY9i _1DUY1 _14s5m\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\" style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>\u201cSuperfood talk\u201d seems to be all the rage in the media lately.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"_TY9i _1DUY1 _14s5m\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">Almost every year I hear about vegetables, fruits, seeds, and even funny-colored powders that people start to obsess over, like kale smoothies that the whole country can\u2019t seem to get enough of.<\/div>\n<div><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.edb.utexas.edu\/fit\/..\/uploads\/sites\/87\/2018\/06\/file-10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-848\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.edb.utexas.edu\/fit\/..\/uploads\/sites\/87\/2018\/06\/file-10.jpg\" alt=\"kale smoothie \" width=\"264\" height=\"370\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sites.edb.utexas.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/87\/2018\/06\/file-10.jpg 350w, http:\/\/sites.edb.utexas.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/87\/2018\/06\/file-10-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 264px) 100vw, 264px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"_23e7Q _1CG-Y _3d6jW blog-quote-border-color\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><em><strong>Superfoods<\/strong> get their label because they are very <strong>nutrient-dense<\/strong>, and those nutrients may have long-term benefits for your health and well-being.<\/em><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"_TY9i _1DUY1 _14s5m\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">However, there are misconceptions on how to eat superfoods and what they can actually do. Superfoods are not magical and will not alter your genetic code. This is why it\u2019s important to get a <strong>variety<\/strong> of fruits and vegetables that are also nutrient-dense in your diet every day.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_TY9i _1DUY1 _14s5m\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_TY9i _1DUY1 _14s5m\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">Tons of people think that if they eat some \u201cmagical food\u201d they will feel powerful and can easily opt out of eating anything else and will still live forever, which just isn\u2019t the case. However, if you maintain a <strong>healthy diet<\/strong> full of <strong>color<\/strong>, you won\u2019t exactly live forever, but you\u2019ll definitely feel the benefits.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_TY9i _1DUY1 _14s5m\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_TY9i _1DUY1 _14s5m\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">A perception about superfoods is that once they are discovered, the previous superfoods in the media become old news. The <strong>problem<\/strong> with that is, like acai berries, these new superfoods have not been around long enough in our diet to scientifically show us how much we should be eating and if they are <strong>safe<\/strong> to consume long-term.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_TY9i _1DUY1 _14s5m\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_TY9i _1DUY1 _14s5m\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">With that being said, there is not a published list with set superfood items. But some of the popular superfoods that have been recurring are:<\/div>\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><a _14s5m\">\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">One year, a professor told me to make a list of 5 of our <strong>own<\/strong> superfoods, so a general rule of thumb I like to follow when I go grocery shopping is: <strong>All of my favorite foods are superfoods!<\/strong> Beans, carrots, peanut butter, oranges, you name it.
